FAQ'S

Yes! The Sechelt Inlet is rich in biodiversity making this area a great place to view bioluminescence! We see it’s magic nightly from May through September, although some nights the visuals are brighter than others.

This is due to many factors including: the amount of light reflected from the moon, the cloud cover (or lack of), and our distance from light pollution.  The less moonlight, the brighter the bioluminescence. (On cloudless full moon nights we travel to bays where the moonlight is less intense)

If rain is in the forecast please dress appropriately.  Warm layers, a rain shell, and a hat is recommended.

For the Into The Night Journey: if you are prepared to be comfortable with good rain gear and a warm layer underneath, you experience the true meaning of “Light Rain” as the drops bounce back off the ocean with a bioluminescent glow, a magical sight!

It is rare that we have wind in the evening during our season, but if we do our guides put safety first, and will adjust the route accordingly.

For the Into the Night Journey: Please check the weather forecast a day or two in advance of the journey, and dress with layers. Bring a rain shell along and if cooler weather is predicted, a hat. Wear comfortable shoes, (no boots please) and bring a re-useable water bottle.

For the Motor Boat Tours:  Please bring water shoes , a re-useable water bottle, a sunhat and glasses, and in the warmer months, an optional swimsuit and towel.  In shoulder seasons warm layers and a hat are recommended.

We begin the journey with a talk about what you will be seeing, a window into the unseen world of nature, and it’s impact on our planet and us.

This is followed with an extensive, land based lesson to prepare you for a safe journey. Topics include kayak characteristics, proper weight distribution, safety protocols during the journey and paddling skills. We custom fit you to your kayak and lifejacket before heading out.

We launch without getting your feet wet, and have a chance to practice what we learned in the bay before setting out.

We have 1.5-2  hours to explore and enjoy the magic of the night before returning to help get the kayaks up the ramp.

The start time for the journey is 1/2 hour before sunset. This changes all season as the days grow in length until summer solstice and then shorten again moving towards fall…You will receive a reminder email with the start time of your journey two days before the event.  Please arrive 15 minutes in advance.

For the Into The Night Journey: We meet at the Metta Eco Experiences Hut, at the Backeddy Resort and Marina Boat Launch, (behind the Pub).

For the Motor Boat Tours: We meet at the top of the main dock, beside the Backeddy Resort Reception.
